I'm safe if you heard about our earthquake

Hey guys, just thought id tell you about my week. the official countdown til my flight home is 23 days . i decided not to count the 30th because i just wake up and leave. but wow its going so fast. i am a little worried about these finals. its so nice here plus im abroad which makes the studying come not so naturally. it should be fine tho. anyways so this week. monday i had class and then worked on homework since i wasnt sure how the rest of the week was gonna go. Loyola and the Rome Center put on this International Conference every year and invite speakers to come from many italian universities. This year it was on Migrant Women and their creativity and constraints after arriving here. It was really interesting. Tuesday after work I went to the opening of the Conference which was in a center for women . There was an art exhibit there by migrant women and then a movie screening. It was really nice. Wednesday i slept in to catch up from Munich and spent the whole day uploading, and sorting pictures and watching movies. Then i had to work in teh library again for a friend. Thursday i went to art in Rome which was really interesting as usual. we went to piazza navona and talked about the fountain of 4 rivers, which all of you who've read angels and demons will recognize . AFter we visited 4 different churches in the area. 2 of them had famous caravaggio paintings which were amazing! I went straight from class to the conference because panel 4 was on the Media and the Arts! It was really nice- 1 woman talked about literature, 1 about film, 1 focused mostly on poetry, and 1 discussed the impact of all. It was a little hard to understand, but i still really enjoyed it. I came back and dad called which was fun. We talked about Oberon season starting as well as his wings game coming up (they WON!) thursday was kind of an early night because of the WWII trip that was friday morning. I woke up early and went to Anzio this little port city south of Rome where a major battle went down with the Germans trying to get to Rome. that day we also visited an American Cememtary of victims from sicily to rome. It was really beautiful. The last part of our day was at this museum which I guess this man started after the war when he realized how much stuff was left behind after all the battles. He had tons of tanks, tents, jeeps, uniforms, everything you can imagine. he put it all in like 16 warehouses and started making some recreations of important battles like the bombing of montecassino. it was insane this man had huge planes in there too- what a collection, but it was also really well done, he had notes about events throughout and blacklights and music- it was a funhouse of wwII info really. that night we went back to our favorite gelato place in balduina and i tried apple cinnamon which was Delicious! so good! not good for my little cough tho- saturday was a continuation of the WWII trip but just in Rome. we went first to these caves where Italians were shot for pretty much no reason. I guess what happened was that a bomb went off and killed some Germans and Hitler got really mad and said to round up 10 times the italians and they would all be shot. but the soldiers didnt want to, so he got them drunk and then they did a sloppy job and caused a lot more pain and struggle and a prolonged death than necessary. but the burial of all these people was really nice and you could tell it was visited often . we ran into a lot of traffic because the unioned workers were protesting something. It seems in italy there is always a protest! so we hopped off the bus and took the metro to our next place which was a museum where there used to be a Nazi headquarters. it was the site of where many prisoners were kept. it was weird seeing some of their last words carved into the walls . And the last place we went was in palazzo titoni and it was the site of a bombing. you could see a ton of bullet holes everywhere from the counterattack. Then we had a late lunch back up by school at this really fun pizzeria id never been to. its right by the upim i think you may have gone to dad. and we went out to this little bar that night with my roommate, her friends and the SLAs (student life assisitants) it was really funny and ironic because dad had just asked if my roommate even still existed. this bar is really unusual for Rome because the owner got his liquor license for it as a "museum" he does actually have a nice collection of old radios and records. but because its not a "bar" he can stay open as late as he wants. also he loves his bar. but i didnt feel great so i just had a beer then danced with everyone. sunday i slept in then went downtown and wreaked havoc with jenn- it was really fun. today has just been school and studying. im gonna try to knock out some papers because this next week is gonna go fast with calcio semi finals and out jfrc talent show which i will no longer be participating in but am excited for anyways. then easter at the vatican this weekend!!! talk to you soon love ya
